Wasteland Versus Disneyland, Disney's Dark Version (Disney's Epic Mickey Part 2)

Last week we discussed the characters who appeared in the game Disney’s Epic Mickey, who live in Wasteland, which is the place where forgotten characters go when they are replaced. Characters like Clarabelle Cow, Pete, Horace Horsecollar and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit reside here and have made it their own. Wasteland resembles real life Disneyland today, as it mimics what it would have looked like if these characters remained as the main ones and were not taken over by Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and the gang. Here are some comparisons of Wasteland Versus Disneyland.

Mean Street (Main Street USA)

Mean Street, the center of Cartoon Wasteland, is based on Disneyland’s Main Street USA. It features many stores and shops like an ice cream shop, emporium, city hall, fire hall, and a cinema, which shows that “Steamboat Oswald” is playing. At the end of the straight pathway is the Disney train station. On the other end is where projector screens are, in which you can enter the other lands. A statue of Walt holding hands with Oswald is featured there, much to the disappointment to Mickey Mouse. Behind the statue off in the distance is a cloudy, dark, tilted castle, named Dark Beauty Castle.

The Gremlin Village (Fantasyland)

The next land, Gremlin Village is based on Disneyland’s Fantasyland. The biggest giveaway is that the boss in this land is the clock tower, which is strikingly similar to the exterior of it’s a small world. Other giveaways is that the land follows the same pink, purple, and blue palette that Fantasyland does, as well as the whimsical looking buildings.

Mickeyjunk Mountain (Matterhorn)

You have to visit Mickeyjunk Mountain a few times throughout the game, and it’s where the final boss is introduced. It is based on Disneyland’s Matterhorn Bobsleds, but only the exterior design of it. There are no other elements of the Matterhorn within it, but it’s filled with old Mickey mementos.

Tomorrow City (Tomorrowland)

They weren’t so subtle with the name of this one. It is very much based on Tomorrowland, as it is themed with space travels, and even features the people mover and the skyway, which is such a great tribute to the 2 forgotten rides.

Bog Easy (New Orleans Square)

Walkthrough_067a.jpg

This ghost town was based on New Orleans Square, with it’s architecture, as well as the characters that it houses. Ghosts live in this land as well as pirates, to pay tribute to the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. On the otherside of this land across the water is a small shack, to resemble the shack at the beginning of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. This land also has Lonesome Manor, where Madame Leona is. Madame Leona… Madame Leota? Coincidence, is it not?

Ventureland (Adventureland)

This one also wasn’t subtle when it came to its name, seems like they were running out of ideas so someone pitched the idea to just remove the A. Nonetheless, this land resembles Adventureland because it has the tiki hut, as well as the wooden architectures. It has a treehouse, just like Tarzan’s treehouse in Disneyland. Here, you meet Smee, along with some other pirates who need help.

Ostown (Mickey’s ToonTown)

The last one, which has to be my favourite of all of them, is Ostown. The sign is an exact replica of the ToonTown sign, and has the houses of Clarabelle Cow and Orentsia the Cat, as well as a house for Mickey in case he ever became forgotten one day. There is a statue of Oswald in the middle that is accompanied with a fountain of thinner, and a sunken tugboat to represent Donald Duck.
